Privacy

Because at ai.philmaps.com, where your AI assistant makes argument maps, is run by Disagree Wisely, Inc. ("we"), a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit. Questions: info@disagreewisely.org. The Because editor used on its own, at app.philmaps.com, has its own privacy policy.

What Because keeps

• Your maps: the claims, brackets and notes in them, their comments and replies, and a log of the changes made to them, by you and by your assistant.
• An anonymous account: a random identifier, kept in a cookie in the browser you connected from. Because does not ask for your name, email address or password.
• The connection with your assistant: the assistant's name as it gives it, and the codes that let it reach your maps.
• Reports you send the team, with the map they are about and anything you choose to include, such as an email address or the passage you were mapping.
• Our server's logs, which record when each request was made and which tool your assistant used. They do not record map content.

Because uses no analytics, advertising or tracking. Its one cookie is the account cookie.

What Because does not see

Because sees only what your assistant sends it: the maps it writes, and a report when you ask for one. It does not see the rest of your conversation, and your assistant's provider (Anthropic, OpenAI or another) handles that conversation under its own privacy terms.

Who can see a map

Each map has a private link. Anyone who has the link can open and edit the map, so share it only with people you want to have that access. Your assistant also sees your maps through its connection.

When you send a report, the people who make Because read it with its map. We use reports, and nothing else, to improve Because and what it teaches assistants about argument mapping. We do not sell your data, and we do not use your maps to train AI models.

Keeping and deleting

Maps are kept until you delete them. You can delete a map, or your whole account and every map in it, on Your maps. Deleting your account also disconnects your assistants. Backups of the server are kept for 14 days, so deleted maps leave the backups within 14 days. To have a report deleted, write to info@disagreewisely.org.

Where it is kept

On a server in the United States run on Google Cloud, at https://ai.philmaps.com, reached only over an encrypted connection.
